Eugene R. Verin, Circuit Judge - 10th Judicial Circuit (Bessemer Division), Alabama
Judge Eugene R. Verin, a 1978 honors graduate of Rutgers University and a 1981 graduate of Howard University School of Law, has served as a Circuit Judge in Bessemer, Alabama since 1998. He presently is assigned to the civil division having previously handled domestic relations and criminal dockets. After graduating from law school Judge Verin served as a Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellow assigned to the Tuscaloosa Regional Office of the Legal Services Corporation of Alabama (1981 – 1983); an associate attorney with the law firm of Shores, Larkin & Massie (1983 – 1985); an Assistant District Attorney with the Bessemer District Attorneys Office (1985 – 1987); and, for the next eleven years until his election as circuit judge, a part-time municipal judge for the city of Bessemer while practicing law in his own general practice law firm.
His numerous professional activities include past presidencies of the Magic City Bar Association; Alabama Lawyers Association; West Jefferson Kiwanis Club; Judicial Council of the Alabama Lawyers Association; Bessemer Cut-Off Domestic Violence Task Force; and, the Birmingham American Inn of Court. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar; Alabama Circuit Judges Association; Alabama Lawyers Association Judicial Council; American Bar Association; Bessemer Bar Association; Birmingham Bar Association; Birmingham American Inn of Court; Magic City Bar Association Judicial Council; and, National Bar Association (life member) Judicial Council.
Judge Verin currently serves as the Executive Director of the Birmingham Bar Association New Lawyer Mentoring Program and as Chairperson of the Magic City Bar Association’s Judicial Council. He is a fellow of both the American Bar and the Alabama Law Foundations.
Married over 30 years to his wife Circuit Judge Annetta Verin, the couple has two adult sons.
