The Honorable Michael G. Graffeo
Judge Graffeo was elected to a full term in November, 2006, and assumed the bench on January 16, 2007. He succeeds the Honorable Tennant M. Smallwood, who retired after serving two terms. Judge Graffeo is a Birmingham native, a graduate of U.A.B. [’76, B.A., Political Science/Sociology], and, a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law [’79, J.D.]. After law school and admission to the bar in September, ’79, he clerked for the U.S. Magistrates, U.S.D.C., N.D.AL. Other than serving as the City Lobbyist and Administrative Assistant to the Mayor of the City of Birmingham [’80-’83], Judge Graffeo practiced law continuously in Birmingham before his election, with McMillan & Spratling [’83-’85], Najjar Denaburg, P.C. [’87-’95], and as a solo, general practitioner [’86-’87, and, ’95-’07]. Judge Graffeo was also elected to the City Council of the City of Birmingham, serving ’87-’89. He's been very active in a variety of bar and local civic programs throughout his professional career, and remains a member of the Alabama State Bar, the Birmingham Bar Association, and the Alabama Circuit Judges Association.
